Home PageWorld Citizenship Project of the Local Spiritual Assembly of Brent (UK)

Dearest EBWN,

I am happy to send you a brief report of the World Citizenship Project that the Local Spiritual Assembly of Brent (UK) has adopted for the past 6 or 7 years.

Once the project was approved of by the Local Spiritual Assembly a committee was appointed to co-ordinate the whole process, i.e. obtaining permission from the head of the religious education in the borough and in contacting the schools. The funding has been provided by an individual Baha'i, except for one year when our
Assembly won an award for doing the project.

When writing to the schools a suitable letter was sent to them inviting the pupils to take part in the project and to write an essay or a poem, or make a poster on the subject given to them.  The subjects have been all on environmental issues, global citizenship, eradication of poverty, eradication of racism and such.

When all the entries were collected a team of judges read the poems and the essays and looked at the posters to select the best 3 out of each section. At the end of the year we have held a prize giving ceremony to which the mayor of the borough and other dignitaries have been invited.  This has been a good proclamation exercise and the Baha'is are well received by the borough.

Any community could do this with 3 to 5 dedicated and committed people to make it a success.

Much love, Roohieh
