Alláh-u-Abhá,
I am currently a Bahá’í living in Alaska, which has been my home for
the last 17 years. Our family of four will be moving to Athens,
Greece this coming July, where my husband will be an elementary school
principal at the
international school there. We are very excited about the prospects
of joining the Bahá’í community there, as well as about experiencing a
new culture and creating a new home for ourselves.
How timely that I learned about the European Bahá’í Women's Network!
I am eager to stay in touch with you all before and after we actually
move. Other than checking in with this website from time to time, are
there other ways of getting or staying connected with your activities?
Is there any way you can help me connect with English speaking Bahá’ís
living in Athens? Thanks so much!
The focus of Bahá’í activities in Alaska include..... Study Circles,
Children's Classes and Devotional Meetings! Such unity, right?
We live in an area that is relatively densely populated compared to much
of Alaska and relatively close to Anchorage, the most populated area,
however the Bahá’í community is small and spread out over a large
area, making some aspects of Bahá’í life a challenge.
Our family has been involved in Children's Classes, most of the time at
our home, with one to three other families joining us. I enjoy
teaching the kids. My husband and I have participated in a wonderful
and enriching Study Circle for the last two-plus years. We are
finishing Book 2 (It takes us a long time because of the scheduling
difficulties that arise in our group of 7-9 people.) You may be
interested to know that two members of our study circle live in an
isolated town about 4 hours from here and participate by TELEPHONE on a
speaker phone. Our Devotional Meetings in this area are, alas,
sporadic, but we continue to set goals!
There
are 8 other regions of Alaska and Bahá’í activities vary greatly, from
tremendous capacity and activity in the Juneau and Southeast area to
simple support for isolated believers in Nome and several of the more
rural areas.
Thank you for your interest. We are very eager to become part of the
European and Greek Bahá’í communities!
Loving regards,
Ley
And
Europe welcomes you with open arms! Welcome!!
