Oriental Dancing

Dear EBWN,

These photos were taken by  the Public Relations Director at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD where I gave a dance performance and workshop during the month of July. In the background of a couple of the pictures, you will see my Aunt Gloria (Dr. G. C. Oden) who is a resident there; and the friend sitting next to her is Esther who is 93 years young. Aunt Gloria retired about six years ago from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she taught English and Creative Writing for over 25 years.

The photos depict a sacred, meditative dance (whirling dervish) and other kinds of oriental dances which are explained during the presentation.  There were about 50 people present and the local TV station also taped the show and workshop; it was shown on TV the following week.

It was very nice to have visited my family and friends in the USA for the last six weeks. (I arrived in  last night.) However, I seriously doubt if I could actually adjust to living in the United States and/or within that society. It was wonderful to return to my pioneering post in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic.   I feel so comfortable living in Europe and have spent almost half of my life out of the land of my birth. You could say that I have achieved what Abdul'-Baha really wanted: to be "homeless"!

Take care, give my greetings to all,

Love,

Vivian
